The purpose of this study is to find out that factors that influence preschool child's
behavior response at the first dental visit.
The samples were selected from the patient who visited the Dept. of Pedodontics,
Kyung Hee Medical Center on the basis of the patient's age from 3-5¨ö years old.
A questionnaire including 30 items was given to patient's mother.
The behavior of child during the clinical procedures was assessed and recorded.
The Chi-square test and T-test were applied on the collected data.
The results were as follows :
1. A child who was uncooperative at the office of pediatrician or physician showed a
tendency toward uncooperative at the first dental visit. (P<0.05)
2. A child who developed a bias for that the dental treatment would be painful tended
to be uncooperative at the first dental visit. (P<0.05)
3. There was no significant correlationship between a child's socialization and/or early
education and his behavior response at the first dental visit.
4. When the acquired maternal anxiety to dentistry was high (P<0.05), and also when
the maternal anxiety just prior to her child's first dental visit was high (P<0.01), the
child showed a tendency toward uncocoperative at the first dental visit.
5. A child whose mother expected cooperative showed a tendency toward
uncooperative at the first dental visit.
